Established in 1928, the Santa Barbara Foundation has a rich history of philanthropy and community involvement. Unable to grow further within their historic downtown adobe home, they acquired new space that was drab and ordinary yet met their programming needs. With a very limited budget and mandate for a sustainable place to advance the foundation image for its donors, we reinvented & reinvigorated the space using the color palette of their community; red tiled roofs, golden rolling hills, and the deep blue ocean. We worked around and relocated piping to maximize ceiling heights. Bamboo, recycled countertops, and recycled carpet tiles were implemented in a modern yet timeless way. A small "sala" off of the boardroom showcases the furniture and pays homage to Max Fleischmann, founder of the Foundation. This new home fosters a new spirit among Santa Barbara Foundation staff and volunteers yet maintains links to their deep historical roots.
