• When two best friends, both lifelong collectors with passions for American folk art, decided it was time to share some of their extensive collection with the public, “the girls” came to The Cearnal Collective to create the perfect home to display their treasures. Located in the heart of downtown Summerland, the mixed-use building was conceived as three separate buildings. A “tin” roofed barn, which provides a welcoming pedestrian connection to the street. The main parking is buried into the hillside with a light filled, 2nd floor gallery space above. North of the metal “silo” on the uphill side of the property is the farmhouse which acts as a good neighbor to the adjacent homes. The “green” goals of the client and design team were achieved with a photovoltaic solar panel array, reclaimed wood floors and recycled/sustainable materials used throughout.
