• The Braille Institute in Santa Barbara was designed to be compatible with the scale and architectural character of the neighborhood while still maintaining a significant presence and identity. The Institute is home to an extensive Braille library and includes offices, conference rooms, classrooms, courtyards and gardens. We worked comfortably with the client to create open-air courtyards, garden-like pergolas and trellises; all safely accessible to both sight impaired/blind clientele. The beacon atop this tower element serves as a symbol of light and hope for the visually impaired and an inspiration to all who visit.
