Kate Hespenheide

Kate graduated with honors from California State University Long Beach in 2014, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Architectural Design. While working toward her degree, Kate was selected to participate in several design competitions with organizations such as the AIA, the IIDA and The Retail Design Institute, traveling throughout Los Angeles and to Chicago to compete. After graduation, Kate’s passion for exploration took her to Israel where she traveled across the country, experiencing the history and culture of ancient cities and the excitement of hiking in the Negev Desert and floating in the Dead Sea.

Upon returning to California, she began working as an interior designer for a commercial architecture and design firm in Orange County, focusing primarily on corporate workplace and and higher education projects. She quickly found herself drawn to the fast pace of tenant improvements and enjoyed the design process at every scale, from space planning entire floors to designing the details and nuances of custom millwork. After three years Kate and her boyfriend relocated to Santa Barbara and was thrilled to land at the Cearnal Collective, where she joined the quickly growing interior design team. Since beginning at the Cearnal Collective, she has been involved in a wide variety of projects, from high-end residential, to contemporary corporate workplace, to Mid-Century Modern hospitality. Kate loves the diversity of her team’s work and the process of transforming their clients’ visions into realities.

Kate has had the opportunity to travel throughout Italy with her boyfriend and is always inspired by the art, culture, and food (of course), and she loves to sketch the architecture they see during their travels. When she’s at home in Santa Barbara she enjoys riding her bike downtown, cooking new recipes, and enjoying Riviera views from her patio.
